The Climate Investment Challenge case study

Wavezero’s mission is to create waves of climate action. Working with leaders such as the Climate Investment Challenge powers the why behind everything we do.

The Climate Investment Challenge and Wavezero have partnered to extend the reach of the fifth edition of this climate finance challenge.

The importance of climate finance

Greenhouse gas emissions need to be reduced by 50% by 2030 and reach Net Zero by 2050 if we are to avoid the worst effects of climate change. To do so finance flows must be aligned with a transition to low-emission economies and ensure that societies can be resilient to climate change.

Between 2021 and 2022, annual climate finance flows reached $1.3 trillion. Despite being at their highest levels yet, $10 trillion is estimated to be required yearly for climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts.

Innovative climate finance solutions have a role to play in accelerating the world's transition to Net Zero emissions, and participants in the Climate Investment Challenge can contribute to these global efforts.

About the Climate Investment Challenge

The Climate Investment Challenge is a global competition organised by the Imperial College Business School, in partnership with the Grantham Institute and the Centre for Climate Finance and Investment.

Every year, this challenge invites university students from all academic backgrounds to develop and pitch innovative climate finance solutions. These solutions can power international efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

Students participating can be from any university in the world and will have the opportunity to connect with passionate students and network with leaders in the climate finance sector. The winners will benefit from cash prizes to develop and scale their ideas.

Our partnership

The Climate Investment Challenge and Wavezero partnered for the fifth edition of the challenge to extend the reach of the competition, raise awareness about the importance of climate finance, and drive an increasing amount of applications.

Collaborating with leaders in the climate space to amplify their voices and drive climate action is exactly why Wavezero exists. Here’s what Tessa Lagaüzeire, Co-Chair of the Climate Investment Challenge, had to say about the partnership:

“It was such a pleasure to work with Wavezero on this project. Finding ways to make climate finance accessible and tangible for students and agents of change is crucial to involve as many people as possible in advancing climate action. Putting words on paper to catalyse students’ motivation to take part in this challenge was very inspiring and reminded the CIC team why we were there. Thank you, Pierre-Louis, for being so responsive, delivering such quality of work, and helping us with this endeavour.”
